Karaj faculty of Medical Sciences Started working , from the second half of 2007 with 177 students in 6 fields of study in associate degree and one official faculty member. By the decree of the minister of health, treatment and medical education of the Faculty of Medical Sciences the faculty was separated in 2010 from Iran University of Medical Sciences and Health Services and continued its activities independently with 7 fields of study and 8 faculty members as" Karaj Medical Sciences and Health Services Faculty". After the formation of the Alborz province, this faculty was transformed into Alborz University of Medical Sciences.
Presently, Alborz University of Medical Sciences is one of the state universities in the country which is covered by the Ministry of health, treatment and Medical Education located in Alborz province. Now ABZUMS continues it s educational, research and health care activities in a new direction with 316 Committed and capable faculty members, seven Vice-Chancellors, six faculties, six healthcare networks and 12 hospitals equipped with the latest technology and equipment and with more than 3300 students in a wide and varied range of fields.
To date, about 3000 healthcare professionals have been graduated from ABZUMS in all branches of health care, including health, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, midwifery, and paramedical sciences.
ABZUMS has six Vice-Chancellors: Vice-Chancellor of academic affairs, Vice Chancellor of research Technology, Vice Chancellor of Student and Cultural Affairs, Vice-Chancellor of Food and drugs Affairs, Vice-Chancellor of healthcare and Vice Chancellor of resources planning and management development, who are the main wings of the university in fulfilling its tasks.
The university is in charge of the whole health care system regulations and coordination throughout Alborz Province.
