History
Gastrointestinal Cancer Research Center was approved to be stablished according to the decision issued in the 245th session of Council of Expansion of Medical Sciences Universities on March 7, 2015. Then, a group of 5 faculty members of Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences was selected as the founding board. Over 100 research projects have been registered in this center with a considerable annual increase. There has been a considerable growth in the number of papers published by the faculty members in this center. This center received the first place among the equivalent level centers in the 2018 performance evaluation of clinical research centers by the Ministry of Health.
Vision
This center is in line with the Islamic Republic of Iran Vision 1404, comprehensive policies of Health System imparted by Iran Supreme Leader, National Program of Cancer, national management policies and strategies, as well as the Comprehensive Scientific Health Plan of the Health Ministry for the next ten years. It is also aligned with the achievement of superb goals of Islamic Republic in health and exaltation of national education system of medical sciences as well as taking advantages of the potential of the existing capacities in the logistic areas of the country with corporation of all authorities in Health System including universities, faculty members, and experts.
This center is determined to play an effective role in the research system, knowledge production, and preventive and treatment studies related to cancer, as well as achieving the best position at the regional, national, and international level in research, education, and treatment.
Mission
This is a distinguished educational and research center working on cancer, and according to the preeminent documents such as 20-year Islamic Republic of Iran Vision, memorandum of understanding of educational transformation in logistic region 1, Health System Comprehensive Plan as well as Comprehensive Scientific Health Plan. Therefore, we are going to be a pioneer in maintaining and promoting the social health through developing the research and conducting pure and applied research as well as presenting preventive and treatment resolutions related to non-communicable diseases. We will present our services taking advantage of advanced technology to the researchers, medical society, and people inside Iran, Persian Gulf region, as well as the Middle East. These services will be presented by developing knowledge and maintaining research culture according to the promotion of social health, development of financial resources, and promotion of scientific position of the center.
Goals
- Realization of 20-year Islamic Republic of Iran Vision, National Comprehensive Scientific Plan, and Health System Comprehensive Plan as well as educational transformation in the logistic agreement in different regions
- Developing and utilizing knowledge related to cancer
- Conducting pure, clinical, and epidemiological studies on cancer to promote the health of individuals in the society and provide scientific evidence for health authorities to decrease the cancer load
- Collecting, arranging, and categorizing the related documents and papers and publishing them
- Training researchers in the area of cancer to develop knowledge
- Encouraging and employing researchers
- Commercializing the research achievements
- Making attempt to cooperate with other research centers in the country
- Cooperating with other research and educational centers located in foreign countries, as well as the international organization considering the rules of Islamic Republic of Iran government
