About Ilam city
Ilam is a city and capital of Ilam Province , Iran . It is the third largest Kurdish city in Iran and its people are mostly Shia Muslims. At the 2011 census, its population was 213,579 people, and 52,474 families. The Kabir Kuh mountain range lies east of the city. From the west it borders Iraq . The city is populated by Kurds and they speak Southern Kurdish
Ilam is situated in the cold mountainous region of Iran at a height of 1,319 metres (4,330 ft) above mean sea level. It is located in the west of Iran at a latitude of 33 38 north and longitude of 46 26 east.
People of Ilam go to nature during the first two weeks of spring and begin spring by setting up tents in the heart of the mountains and plains. The natural and open cave of Zeinegan is one of the tourist attractions and popular places of Ilam, making it a very pleasant strait. The Zeinegan Natural Cave is a wonder located in the heart of the tropical area of the Saleh Abad section of the Mehran Tropical Department, which attracts many barefoot guests each summer. This area is known as Bagh-e Behesht for its very cool and pleasant climate.
The Strait and Ch b n Castle is one of the magnificent natural phenomena of the Darreh Shahr Department, which includes unique monuments. Bahr m Ch b n Valley is a tall, narrow valley strategically located on Kabir Kouh Mountain, adjacent to Sheikh Makan Village on the west side of Darreh Shahr-Poldokhtar Road. Due to the remaining walls and military fortresses, this valley is called Bahr m.
Vali Castle of Ilam is one of the important monuments of the Qajar period in Ilam, built by Qolamreza Khan Vali on a hill in 1908. This monument consists of several parts such as the harem, the alcove, the hall of mirrors and the basement prison. The Ilam Vali Castle, which has functioned as an anthropology museum for years, is an example of the province's culture and civilization, which attracts many visitors every year during the New Year holidays. Historically, Ilam is part of Iran's major provinces and most of its monuments date back to the Sassanid era. With its 750 national monuments, Ilam province ranks 5th in the country in terms of registered monuments. 25 monuments in 2011, 21 monuments in 2012, 22 monuments in 2013 and 50 monuments in 2014 have been inscribed on the national heritage list.
Introduction of Ilam University of Medical Sciences
With the approval of the law establishing universities of medical sciences in 1365, the health organization of Ilam province started operating in 1369 with the establishment of a nursing school and recruiting 19 students and 2 academic staff. This university has 7 vice-chancellors, 5 colleges and a school of oral and dental health, 9 public hospitals and 2 private hospitals, and has 1687 students in various degrees and 24 fields of study (associates, bachelors, masters, medical doctors and PhD by research) and 95 academic staff members. Currently, the university provides services to the people of Ilam province with 197 health houses, 29 rural health and medical centers, 33 urban health and medical centers and 39 urban health centers. In 2017-2018, due to the activities and faculty members of Ilam University, it was able to become the fourth brigade among of type three Iranian universities (23 universities). In 2019, the Student Research Committee of Ilam University of Medical Sciences won first place among medical universities.

Ilam University of Medical Sciences has about 217 faculty members, of which 10 are full professors and at present this University has close to 4,000 Iranian students enrolled in the government entrance exam .
This university is also proud that there are 32 faculty members who are teaching in the international field for international students. These university professors are available in the microbiology, virology, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, islamic thinking, English language, Persian Language. There are almost 120 international students studying in medicine, dentistry, nursing and laboratory sciences. Students studying in this university have come to the Islamic Republic of Iran from Iraq, India, and Pakistan to educate .
