Vice Chancellery for Research Affairs, as one of the authorities in health promotion, has taken measures through designing appropriate strategic plans to promote the research affairs. One of the main strategies and measures taken in vice-chancellery for research is development of applied sciences to find solutions for everyday health needs based on "The Future Outlook of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Horizon of the Next Two Decades" document.

In recent years, researchers affiliated to Shiraz University of Medical Sciences have had an outstanding role in science production and expanding the borders of knowledge worldwide. At present, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences is ranked amongst the 1% of universities in the world and the third among Iranian universities of medical sciences regarding to the citations to its published scientific articles.

• Promotion of young academic staff’s research abilities through holding educational workshops and establishing research consultation centers

• Increasing the quantity of university scientific journals and also promoting their quality in order to index them in high rank indexing databases
