The Otorhinolaryngology Department of AJUMS, which is has been academically active for more than four decades, has been taking decisive steps to train medical students, including externs, interns and residents. In order to meet the needs of the province and the university in terms of conducting basic and applied research, this department took the initiative to establish a research center in this regard. In a meeting of the Council for the Development of Medical Universities held in May 2013, the Hearing Research Center of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences (AJUMS) obtained the agreement in principle from the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education and officially began its activities on the same date. In June 2017, the center managed to obtain a final license from the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education. The establishment of this research center was aimed to provide health care solutions for the deaf, the hard of hearing and patients with speech problems. This center aims to develop and apply new human knowledge in the field of hearing improvement and speech correction and to promote health in society, increase productivity, reduce disability, and decrease government expenditures.
