Given the alarmingly increasing rate of blood diseases and thalassemia in Khuzestan region in recent decades, a decision was made to establish the Persian Gulf Thalassemia and Hemoglobinopathy Research Center at Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences - Shafa Hospital. The growth of scientific research in this center is hoped to alleviate part of the problems of patients suffering from these diseases.
The Persian Gulf Thalassemia and Hemoglobinopathy Research Center, located in Shafa Hospital, was established in 2003. Ten years later in 2013, this center received a definite five-year agreement for its scientific activities. This center is one of the few research centers of thalassemia and hemoglobinopathy in the country which promises a bright future.
Vision
The Persian Gulf Thalassemia and Hemoglobinopathy Research Center is expected to play its role as a top research center in the field of thalassemia and hemoglobinopathy in the country by 2021, relying on the valuable experiences and capabilities of its faculty members.
Mission
The Persian Gulf Thalassemia and Hemoglobinopathy Research Center is the only research center located in the southwest of Iran that provides research, prevention, diagnosis and treatment services in the field of thalassemia and hemoglobinopathy, thereby setting the stage for doing research by professors and faculty members interested in these fields.
