
Ahvaz School of Nursing and Midwifery started accepting 20 female students in the field of nursing in October 1958 under the title of Higher School of Nursing at the Moein Garden in Ahvaz, affiliated to the Ministry of Science. Students received a bachelor's degree after a three-year course. In 1350, a four-year undergraduate period replaced the three-year period and 30 students were enrolled.
In 1986, with the establishment of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, School of Nursing officially continued its work as the School of Nursing and Midwifery of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences. The school enrolled Nursing, Midwifery, and Operation Room Technology. Since 1993, a discontinuous bachelor's degree in nursing has also been established.
The Midwifery training department started its activities in 1986. The training of students in this field was done in associate degree from 1986 to 1995, continuous bachelor's degree from 1988 and discontinuous bachelor's degree from 1989.
Admission of students in the field of Operation Room Technology also began in 1988. Since 1999, this field has been operating under the title of bachelor's degree in surgical technology. Since February 2006, the school enrolled students in associate degree in Emergency Medicine and from 1988, the school enrolled students in the Master degree of Anesthesia Nursing.
Postgraduate education in nursing with the orientations of medical and surgical, pediatrics and psychiatry continued in 1993.
In 2014, with the approval of the Ministry of Health, each of the trends became an independent field, and adult intensive care nursing and community health nursing were also added.
The school has offered MSc programs in Reproductive Health, Midwifery Education and Midwifery Services Management since 1993 and in Midwifery Counseling since 2013. It has also offered a PhD program in nursing since February 2008, and in Midwifery since October 2016.
The school is located in an area of 8000 square meters with 18 classrooms; a comprehensive clinical skills center with an area of around 500 square meters; a library with an area of 700 square meters with 14942 books in Persian, English and other languages, and 550 theses and dissertations; meeting halls; a computer site with an area of 150 square meters and the seating capacity for 60 students; and a PhD students’ office with an area of approximately 70 square meters.
